I spend quite a lot of time alone with myself, and constantly think about how to enjoy loneliness and use this time to my advantage. And although many of my friends lead a completely different way of life, it gives me more pleasure to be in silence, alone with myself. The point is that not all people are compatible with society. And many people enjoy spending time in solitude, and there is nothing wrong with that.
There is an opinion that loneliness is suffered by people who do not know how to communicate, or have some kind of psychological problems. As if loneliness is not a choice. But you may be surprised to learn that many people really want to be alone. Perhaps spending time with friends, family, and having romantic relationships is extremely important for someone. But for other people, it can be exhausting and unfulfilling.
In fact, you will be surprised to know how pleasant being alone can be. After all, just as you communicate with people and learn everything about them, spending time on your own is a great way to get to know yourself better. So, below I have prepared a list of activities that will bring you benefit and pleasure if you like to be alone.
1. Take a bike ride
I think all adults know how to ride a bicycle. And even if you don’t have one, you can find a place where you can rent it for a few hours, or for the whole day. Cycling not only brings health benefits, but you can also visit all of the most beautiful and iconic places in your city. So as soon as you have the opportunity to purchase or rent this vehicle, start every day to ride along the scenic routes of your city. Enjoy relaxation, freedom, fresh air, sun and solitude. Cycling is a very good activity that you can do on your own. And you don’t need to look for acquaintances or friends to keep you company.
2. Read books
If you don’t know how to enjoy being alone, then start reading what interests you. Books are almost like modern gadgets that help us in certain situations. But unlike mobile phones and computers, people have a lot of respect for those who devote time to their own development, using reading books. After all, it is much more pleasant for us to communicate with people who know how to correctly express their thoughts. They can support the conversation in any situation and tell something interesting. So set aside at least 3 days a week to just relax and read an interesting book. You can go to the park, sit at a table in a cafe, or go to the library. In general, choose a place that will be comfortable for you, and enjoy reading and solitude.
3. Start learning something new
This is a very simple yet effective way to enjoy being alone. Take advantage of your free days and start learning something new. You can use your gadgets and the Internet for this. Indeed, with the help of modern technologies, we can get access to any information and gain new knowledge and skills in any area. You can even create your own blog or YouTube channel and share your knowledge and what you have learned there. In the event that you do not like to use gadgets, then visit libraries and museums. I am sure that in these places you will find and discover a lot of new and interesting things.
4. Prepare something tasty for yourself
Everyone should pamper themselves periodically. Go to the store, buy all the ingredients you need, and make yourself a delicious dinner. Have a quiet and cozy evening. With love and attention, cook your favorite food on the stove, turn on your favorite music, pour yourself a glass of wine, light candles and enjoy the solitude. Spoil yourself with a delicious dinner prepared by you. Don’t know how to cook? Then search for recipes on the Internet, or order ready-made meals at a restaurant. But please, not fast food.
5. Try to paint
Start developing new skills and abilities. Try to start painting. This is a great activity for people who like to spend time alone. You may feel uncomfortable at first. But over time, you will start to get better at it. You can also find a lot of information on the internet on how to start drawing for a beginner. And if you enjoy this activity, then you will have another hobby. Or you can try drawing portraits of people and make money on it.
6. Watch a new movie or TV series
I think everyone loves to watch movies and TV shows. What about some kind of entertainment show or cartoon? Think back to the days when you could watch your favorite movie several times and enjoy it all the time. Have a movie night. Find your favorite movies. Prepare something delicious. Order pizza, sushi, or whatever you really love. Don’t be afraid to laugh out loud, cry, and show emotion. Nobody will see this. As a result, you can have fun and enjoy the loneliness.
7. Go shopping
I understand that it can be fun to shop with friends and acquaintances. But when was the last time you tried to shop alone and enjoy it? I set aside one or two free days for all the holidays to go shopping and spend money on myself. I don’t always buy myself only clothes. Quite often I buy books, or what is useful to me in my everyday life. Try it too, I’m sure you will enjoy shopping alone.
8. Get rid of fears
It may sound rather strange, but yes, you can better confront your fears when you are alone. You will learn to value yourself and enjoy your courage. Many of us need a friend or partner to help us face any fear. But when we are forced to do it alone, we realize how brave and courageous we really are. Just knowing that you were able to do something on your own is a good enough reason to start trusting yourself more.
9. Realize who you really are
In fact, this is a very useful way to enjoy being alone. After all, we never devote enough time to ourselves to build a good relationship with ourselves. Therefore, many of us do not even know our dreams, desires and goals. Our personalities are often clouded by the people we spend most of our time with. Whether it’s work colleagues, your spouse, friends, or whoever. But who are you really? What do you want to get out of life and what do you strive for? Take some time to give yourself answers to these questions. I think for any person, this will be a very useful activity.
Of course, there are other ways to enjoy solitude, but these are, in my opinion, the most effective. After all, any person will be pleased to know that he is an interesting person in himself. And the moments that you share with yourself will show you how wonderful you are and what useful things you can do yourself. Being lonely does not mean shutting yourself off from society. It’s about taking the time to explore your own being. It is about conscious living from the inside out. About exploring your own personality and thinking about the space that you fill in this world. It’s more about how to be a happy person, even if everyone around you is showing negativity and dislike.
