How to get rid of the past once and for all?
The past haunts many people, and negative thoughts and memories prevent us from leading a calm life. Sometimes this feeling becomes so overwhelming that it begins to affect our present and future. Why is this happening and how to get rid of the past, you ask? Let’s talk about this.
I think the main reason why the past is such a dominant force in our lives is because it is authentic. That is, we know for sure that it happened. There are times when people cling to the past because it brings them comfort and hope that things will go better. After all, they used to have such cases, and history tends to repeat itself. Therefore, the past brings comfort and confidence when the present becomes too complex and the future is uncertain.
Unfortunately, constantly thinking about how to get rid of the past and looking back in time can hinder your progress in the present. You may have had a really good time in the past. But persistent memories won’t bring him back and improve your life. Therefore, a more efficient way to make the times past better is to be as productive as possible today. After all, everything depends only on us, and we are able to make every day good, if we really want it.
Life can create obstacles in our path, but how we react to them determines our future. It all depends on our perception of the situation. Any mistake or problem, nothing without our reaction to it. Only we can contribute to the development of a certain situation, or its extinction.
The past time contains many negative memories. This can very much fetter a person in the present and influence his future. Negative aspects of the past can lead to depression, fear, anxiety, and many other symptoms. It’s like the luggage that we carry on our backs, and the older we get, the heavier this load. After all, we accumulate in our life a lot of things, both good and bad. Favorable memories of the past are light, and negative memories are the hardest. These can be memories of being deceived, cheated, or hurt. We need to get rid of this in order to make our “journey” more enjoyable.
1. Draw conclusions and move on
One way to get rid of negative memories is to look at them as lessons. We must learn from our mistakes and learn from past failures so that this doesn’t happen again in the future. If you look at past negative experiences as a teacher, then it will be easier for you to move on. For example, when you were in school, after the end of class, you went home and began to study new material and prepare for new lessons. You must do the same in real life. Treat the days gone by like the lessons you’ve learned and move on. In this case, the load will not be as strong, and you will be able to breathe more freely. You need to be content with your life, because you know that every negative experience is a lesson that will only make you stronger.
2. Learn to forgive
The next way to get rid of the past is forgiveness. Resentment and unwillingness to forgive a person will keep your memories for a long time and will not allow you to live in peace. Understand that when you forgive, you are doing it for yourself, not for him. You need to forgive the person and let go of all the bad thoughts that bind you.
3. Tell yourself “stop”
You can say the word out loud, write it down, or just whisper it. Whichever way you do it, as soon as bad memories pop up in your memory, stop them. Tell them they have no right to return to your mind. You only have a place for new and pleasant events. Don’t let negative thoughts affect your life. You are a strong person and will definitely handle it.
4. Stop worrying about what people think of you.
In order to forget the past, you need to get rid of thoughts and worries about what they think about you. Start loving yourself and treating yourself better. As Mahatma Gandhi said:
5. Allow yourself to experience negative emotions.
If you broke up with a loved one or someone close to you died, you need to respect this loss. Trying to ignore negative emotions will only increase suffering and will keep those moments in your memory for a long time. Loss can be hard to deal with, but you need to allow yourself to feel sad and go through the process so you can move on.
6. Replace your memories
To forget the past, think about the person you love or the joyful moments in your life. Think about the times that make you feel special and happy. Take more time in your life to enjoy and smile. Our mind is a very powerful tool, or in this case a weapon, against any form of negativity in life. So work with it and use it correctly.
There is no point in looking back
The Butterfly Effect is one of my favorite films. I remember the first time I watched it in the cinema and thought how great it would be to go back and change everything for the better. But after the end of the film she changed her mind. I understood how changing something in the past can change the whole future. This includes the different stages of our lives and the people we meet. If you remember the end of the film, then you know that the main character still met the love of his life. This means that our destiny is the same, even if the path to it is different. So there is no point in looking back and trying to change the past. After all, what should happen, it will definitely happen.
Remember what happens today or tomorrow will become part of the past. So if you want to change the past, you must change it today. Of course, it will be difficult for you to completely forget the old days, but do not let this become the center of your life. The past is gone and it will never return. Free yourself of this burden and rid yourself of bad memories, but keep in mind the lessons you learned.
Life is like a zebra because it has white and black stripes. Whites are an easy and wonderful time, while black stripes are tough and challenging. The important thing to remember is, nothing stays the same. Life is constantly changing and if it can get really bad it can become good. Try to create your life as best as possible, so that only good events can be remembered.
